The Importance of Coaching Staff for Managers

We often work with staff members who are not reaching their potential and, in turn, are not as valuable to us as managers or the operation at large. Unless we have the correct communications skills to deal with our staff, productivity suffers. These staff members can hinder operations and take time away from us as managers, as well as create problems in the team with either:

  • Poor attitudes: Staff members who are lazy, unassertive, confrontational or stubborn
  • Bad behaviour: Staff members who do not hand in reports on time, do not communicate sufficiently to relevant parties, or who do not communicate through the correct channels of authority
  • Poor skills: Staff members who need up-skilling opportunities.

Coaching to Improve Communications Skills and Profitability

Coaching is a two-way process that sustains results in the workplace and is goal-orientated while it strengthens relationships and improves communications skills. The process also requires the manager to assess what he or she is not putting in place or areas of weakness in their leadership that are not assisting their staff to achieve their workplace goals. The process is beneficial to managers and the staff under their leadership, as well as the productivity and profitability of the department in question.

Objectives:

This workshop will be looking at communications skills and techniques that address the following:

  • How to assess what benefits the coaching process will have to your time, productivity and financials
  • How to assess if this is a coachable area of skill, attitude or behaviour
  • The benefits of assessing your areas of development as a manager in the coaching process, both in communication and skill
  • The four steps of coaching
  • Communication during the coaching process
  • Identifying larger staff and productivity issues that you are missing on a daily basis

All workshops are practical and interactive and include hand-outs and workshop materials. Workshops take place on client’s premises during office hours.
